Adze Character was started in 1986 as a design, build and native timber sales service. We tended to use all our timber in our buildings and furniture so that side gradually faded.
Projects have to be interesting for life is to short to be doing soulless toxic buildings. Our clients are wonderful creative types who already know about energy efficient passive solar gain, sometimes even Trombe Mechelle walls. They want a quality in a building that is spiritually nourishing and environmentally responsible. So we have a go. It's a very organic process, the design part is about making friends and becoming one of the family. The construction site is like a stage where the skeleton grows a skin and then eventually comes to life. Organic is a good word.
